Each year, the celebration of Tết Nguyên Đán at Hoa Mai Vietnamese Preschool—a chapter of SCCS, directed by Gloria Hodge—serves as a vibrant and meaningful tradition that brings our community together in joy, reflection, and cultural pride. As the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, Tết marks a time of renewal, family, and hope for the year ahead.

This year’s celebration holds special significance as we also honor the 10th anniversary of Hoa Mai. Since its founding, Hoa Mai has served as a cornerstone for culturally responsive early learning. The program was developed in partnership with the Vietnamese Friendship Association in response to a clear need: to provide high-quality early learning opportunities for the disproportionately large number of Vietnamese families living in the Rainier Valley community of Seattle.
As we celebrate both Tết and a decade of Hoa Mai’s impact, we are reminded of the importance of building programs that reflect and uplift the communities they serve. Hoa Mai continues to stand as a shining example of what is possible when cultural authenticity and educational excellence come together.
