Reflecting on Our Journey

As we continue to enjoy the summer months, it's a wonderful time to reflect on some of the milestones that have shaped Sound Child Care Solutions!

Our journey began in 2006, when SCCS was founded to strengthen early learning programs through shared services, professional development, and collaborative leadership. That same year, on May 1, SCCS launched its first annual Undoing Institutional Racism Workshop & Training, equipping educators with practical tools to support anti-bias education in their classrooms throughout the year. This workshop has since become a cornerstone of SCCS's commitment to equity and culturally responsive teaching.

In February 2007, Interlaken Preschool, a one-classroom early learning program, became the first center to join SCCS. This milestone marked the beginning of a growing network of early learning programs working together to strengthen operations while preserving each center's unique identity and connection to its community.

SCCS continued to invest in professional excellence in 2014, when a group of educators traveled to New Zealand for the organization's first international professional development experience. The opportunity expanded educators' understanding of the Reggio Emilia philosophy and inspired new approaches to child-centered, inquiry-based learning that continue to influence classrooms today.

The following year, in 2015, SCCS partnered with the Vietnamese Friendship Association to establish Hoa Mai Vietnamese Bilingual Preschool, the first Vietnamese-English bilingual early learning center in Seattle. Created in response to a growing community need, Hoa Mai has become an important model for culturally sustaining education, helping children develop bilingual skills while honoring their language, culture, and identity.

National recognition followed in 2018, when Melinda Gates visited Southwest Early Learning Bilingual Preschool (SWEL). During her visit, both SWEL and the Refugee & Immigrant Family Center (RIFC) were recognized as exemplary dual language programs, highlighting the impact SCCS has made in advancing multilingual early learning opportunities for children.

These milestones represent only a few of the many accomplishments that reflect SCCS's continued commitment to innovation, equity, and providing exceptional early learning experiences for all children. As we prepare for the new school year, we look forward to reconnecting with our educators, families, partners, and community members.
